My motion calling for South Dublin County Council to formally endorse the call for a fossil fuel non proliferation treaty was supported by all parties and independents at the Council meeting on Thursday 15th June and passed unanimously.
The Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative is a global effort to foster international cooperation to accelerate a transition to clean energy for everyone, end the expansion of coal, oil and gas, and equitably phase out existing production in keeping with what science shows is needed to address the climate crisis.
South Dublin County Council becomes the first council in Ireland to endorse the call for a treaty joining 6 countries and 84 cities around the globe.
